Jennings School District Strong COVID 19 OFFENSE March 18 Through April 5, 2020 | UPDATED 3-15-2020

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff:

We have been working in collaboration with the St. Louis County Health Department, St. Louis County Government, and regional leaders regarding the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). After a meeting this evening, we have decided to close all Jennings School District schools and preschool starting on Wednesday, March 18 through April 3, 2020.  We are considering making six days within this timeframe count for Spring break with classes set to resume on April 6, if possible. The closure is effective starting March 18th!  Parent-Teacher Conferences are canceled for March 19th and 20th. All extracurricular activities and outside organization events are also canceled until further notice.

This action is necessary and at the recommendation of the Health Department. We are deeply saddened by the fact we will not be able to provide our students with our typical structure, learning, and community. There are many questions about the next steps and schedules. This is a continually changing situation, so it is difficult to be definitive in planning.

We are working on at-home activities, food stations for "grab-and-go" breakfast and lunch meals, and more during this time and if an extension is needed. Again, teaching staff will be working on alternative learning support and materials for students and the District is working on grab-and-go meals that could be provided at several schools across our District (Fairview,JETS, JSH, and possibly more as needed). More information will be provided in the next few days. Our amazing custodial and maintenance staff will deep clean our buildings. The cleaning will include wiping down the hard surfaces, treating our floors, and disinfecting toys and athletic equipment.

Throughout our closure, we ask that students and staff follow the CDC guidance - practice social distancing, stay in, wash your hands, and practice good respiratory hygiene. Contact the St. Louis County Health Department or your primary care physician should you have any Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms. Please go to jenningsk12.org for more information and stay tuned for additional school messenger calls such as this one! Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted times together and do our part to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.

If you have any community health questions or concerns, you can also call the St. Louis County Department of Public Health 24 hotline at 314-615-2660 (available 24/7).

Thank you,
Dr. Art McCoy, Superintendent
Jennings School District
